Major Objectives and Responsibilities
1. Lead the development and implementation of the Geelong Tech School programs related to
the strategic plan and vision of the Tech School.
2. Ensure the Geelong Tech School has a vibrant and dynamic program offering aligned to the
needs of Industry and School-Based Partners.
3. Lead and facilitate student programs STEM based programs and projects, and associated
learning resources.
4. Lead teacher professional development and training of other Tech School education staff.
Design, innovate, develop and implement professional development programs for partner
secondary school teachers to build capability and confidence in the delivery of innovative
STEM education programs.
5. Responsible for development of stakeholder engagement strategies and establishing robust
relationships with major stakeholders and bodies impacting on the efficient function of the
Geelong Tech School. Stakeholder examples include VCAA, STEM and Technology Teacher
Networks, Industry and Community Partners.
6. Contribute to the development and implementation of Geelong Tech School operational
practices and policies as they relate to participant welfare and discipline.
7. Contribute to the strategic and business plan for the Geelong Tech School.
8. Operate independently, under board direction from the Director Geelong Tech School and be
relied upon as an authority in STEM programs.
9. Provide expert STEM knowledge and skills across the Institute as requested.
10. Demonstrated commitment to The Gordon’s values and behaviours.
11. Maintain currency, comply with registration requirements and actively participate in an annual
performance planning and review process.
12. Comply with all Geelong Tech School and Gordon policies and procedures, and legislative
requirements, including: Staff Code of Conduct; Customer Service Standards; Quality
Management; Equal Opportunity; Occupational Health and Safety; Child Safe Standards;
Victorian Information Privacy Act; and contribute to the identification, reporting and control of
risks within areas of responsibility and across The Gordon.
13. Other duties as directed by the relevant Manager.
Key Selection Criteria
1. A relevant qualification in a related field (e.g.; Systems, IT, Advanced Manufacturing,
Science); or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or
experience leading to the development of specialist expertise.
2. Evidence of a high level of teaching/training skills and the ability to inspire, lead and
mentor secondary school staff and students
3. Proven ability to carry out practical technical activities using a combination of IT, AV, VR and
Advanced Manufacturing processes and technologies across a range of systems and
applications including Apple, PC, Android, Open-Source and Adobe CC platforms
4. Experience in the development and delivery of STEM based programs, utilising innovative
thinking and approaches that have challenged existing practices in skills development,
training methods and design based learning.
5. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating the capacity to
engage and maintain a strong working relationship with a range of stakeholders from
industry, the community and schools.
6. Well-developed information and communication technology skills, including the use of library
management systems and equipment, eResources and the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
7. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and achieving deadlines.
8. Experience in influencing key stakeholders to overcome challenges and ensure positive
progress.
9. Demonstrated ability to prepare sound advice that will influence recommendations, policy and
procedures on matters affecting a wide range of activities across the Tech School. .
