Based in our Head Office in Brisbane , this Mining Engineer position will be part of our corporate Technical Services Department and will be responsible for providing mine planning support to our global projects.

About the role

As our next Mining Engineer reporting to the Principal Mine Planning Engineer, you will work collaboratively towards delivering high-quality solutions and results.

In this role, you will:
Provide site support for mine planning related activities, including site relief roles from time to time

Participate in the development and optimisation of mine design, scheduling and haulage for tenders and other business opportunities

Use your curious nature to investigate & innovate toward more efficient ways of mine design

Provide expert input into the Global Mine Planning Community of Practices, promoting knowledge share and networking across the business

Provide training, coaching and mentoring support to junior engineers

Assess the technical risk in mine plans and develop mitigation strategies

Participate in the development of standardised systems and processes for mine planning

Identify project risks from a technical, HSE and cost perspective during the mine planning phase to ensure potential impacts on the project are identified, documented and communicated

Undertake domestic and international travel as required for the role

About you

Demonstrated commitment to the Thiess principles of Integrity, Accountability, Innovation and Delivery, all unpinned by Safety

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Mining or Civil Engineering (or equivalent)

Minimum 3 years site experience in an operational mining engineering capacity (open cut and/or underground coal/metalliferous mining are fine)

Intermediate skills in mine planning, design and scheduling

Ability to work collaboratively within a small team environment

Demonstrated ability to develop accurate designs and undertake short term mine plans including use of geological models, reserve creation, scheduling, haulage/dump modelling and generation of reports

Preparation of documentation detailing mine plan assumptions and logic

Practical experience in risk management in mine design

High level of proficiency in MS Office, Vulcan, SPRY and/or Deswik Software preferred

Excellent behavioural, time management, analytical, verbal and written communication skills
