Job Details: The Curator of International Art pre-1980 will:

Ensure accurate and thorough documentation and research of the collection of International paintings, sculpture and time-based media pre-1980 by cataloguing, researching and maintaining files on the collection and ensuring the integrity of these records.
Ensure access to the collection of International paintings, sculpture and time-based media pre-1980 by: curating and coordinating permanent collection displays; curating exhibitions and generating related interpretative material; writing articles, essays, catalogues and books on this collection; facilitating the viewing of works of art in storage; and responding to enquiries on the collection.
Ensure the high quality and sound development of the collection of International paintings, sculpture and time-based media pre-1980 by: assessing the existing collection and formulating acquisition strategies based on aesthetic, art historical and market judgement; seeking out, researching, documenting and recommending acquisitions; and establishing and maintaining links with artists, collectors, gallerists and existing and potential donors.
Promote the collection of International paintings, sculpture and time-based media pre-1980 and take curatorial responsibility in the public programs of the Gallery by: generating collection-based temporary exhibitions and displays; coordinating curatorial aspects of incoming temporary exhibitions; and presenting talks on the collection, exhibitions and displays to diverse audiences in a range of contexts.
Ensure the efficient management and care of the collection of International paintings, sculpture and time-based media pre-1980 by: assessing and programming conservation needs; assessing and ensuring the safe storage and handling of this collection; developing a program for and supervising volunteers; and ensuring the day-to-day maintenance of the Gallery’s permanent collection display
Maintain current knowledge in the specialist field of International paintings, sculpture and time-based media pre-1980 by visiting exhibitions and keeping up to date with the relevant literature, and by establishing and maintaining professional contacts with artists, dealers and colleagues in Australia and internationally.
Contribute to the documentation, research, display, interpretation, development, exhibition and conservation of the collection of International prints, drawings & photographs pre-1980, under the direction of the Senior Curator, Prints, Drawings & Photographs.
Contribute to the presentation, research and public programs associated with touring exhibitions (internal and external) as related to International Art pre-1980, or as required.
