Job Details: Our Tanami Operations, 540km north-west of Alice Springs, are on Aboriginal freehold land, in the NT’s remote Tanami Desert. A fully equipped 1200-bed village, 40km from the mine, offers modern leisure facilities to the workforce who FIFO direct from Perth, Darwin and Alice Springs.

The Role
Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor, we have an amazing opportunity for an Apprentice Boilermaker.
Based on site, you will learn through a mixture of on-the-job and classroom training. Working alongside our qualified Boilermakers, you will be involved in repair, servicing and maintenance of Newmont Tanami’s fixed plant equipment. Equipment may include but not limited to pumps, mill, crusher, conveyors, tanks and ancillary items. The nominal term for this apprenticeship is 4 years.


The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8/6 FIFO roster from Darwin, or Alice Springs.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Assist in carrying out routine mechanical maintenance of the fixed and mobile and equipment to the required standard of performance and safety;
Help ensuring all work is completed safely and in a timely manner, thus minimising down time;
Assist with meeting company maintenance and production objectives by ensuring all maintenance work is carried out to relevant Australian Standards and regulations;
Ensuring the workshop and yard are kept tidy and that the plant site is left tidy after any work is carried out;
The Person
A desire to work thoroughly and keep up to date with changing technology
An interest in Boilermaking and FIFO lifestyle
Physically capable (12 hour shifts in a challenging environment, ability to lift 15kgs etc.)
Enthusiasm to learn and use diagnostic skills and ability
Must be able to pass aptitude tests (numeracy, literacy and technical) skills
Must be able to pass a pre-employment medical
Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe working environment
Excellent communication skills; both oral and written.
Ability to analyse a task and understand the safety and job requirements.
