Job Summary: Development and support of grower groups within the area, to encourage peer-to-peer learning; Development of project based workplans to address specific practice change priorities; Establishing baselines for grower farming practices and attitudes; Setting up demonstrations investigating effects of specific farm practices on productivity and sustainability; Providing grower groups with agronomic and farming systems support, with a focus on the impact farming systems and whole farm management practices have on profitability, productivity and sustainability;
Job Details: Based in Mackay, the principle focus will be on supporting the sugar industry in the Central region which includes Plane Creek, Mackay and Proserpine. Given the geographic spread of the region and the need to service all milling regions, the role will require a reasonable amount of travel. There may also be a need to provide support to the other regions of the industry from time to time.
